Another Dauphin King is headed south. Jared Morris is set to go deep into the United States, he’ll play with the Arizona State Sun Devils who skate in the ACHA D1 and were last season’s National Champions.
Morris was another one of those relied upon players for the Dauphin Kings this past season. He came back to Dauphin after having his rights acquired from the Winnipeg Blues in the 2013-14 season, at the time he was playing in the United States.
Morris had an excellent shot and was a big body that the Kings used on the Power Play during the season and playoffs. He ended the campaign with 18 goals and 10 assists in 35 games for Dauphin. He also picked up key markers in the post season and RBC Cup.
You could argue Morris had some of the best goal celebrations in the MJHL as you’ll see below, along with the release from the Dauphin Kings…
Jared Morris is the latest Dauphin King to commit to college. The La Salle, MB product will be taking his talents south to play for the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Sun Devils play in the ACHA D1 and were last season’s National Champions.
“Jared is a monster pick up for our program,” said ASU Head Coach Greg Powers. “He’s a big time talent up front and gives us a pure goal scorer which we needed losing the guns that we graduated. Finding kids like Jared who have tremendously high character, are great students, and can score at will is tough, but we’ve done that with Jared. He is going to fit in perfect with our system and culture, and will be a big piece for us defending our championship with his goal scoring ability.”
A former first round bantam draft pick of the Kings, Morris came back to the hockey club in late November when the Kings acquired his rights in a trade with the Winnipeg Blues. In 38 regular season games the big left winger scored 18 goals and had 10 assists for 28 points. Morris would go on to add 4 goals and 10 points in the Kings 13 playoff games.
At the Western Canada Cup, Morris racked up 5 points in 6 games as the Kings advanced to the RBC Cup in Vernon. In Vernon, Morris would add another goal in the King’s 5 games there.
“Mo has that great combination of size and scoring ability.” stated Kings AC Marc Berry. “He has top end puck skills and an incredible release. Getting him back to Dauphin was part of the turning point in our season. Jared’s game should continue to get better as he continues his career in Arizona.”
“I can’t wait to head to ASU it’s a great program that is looking to defend their national championship and I can’t wait to be apart of it.” said Morris. “I want to thank the Dauphin Kings for starting and ending my junior career, great organization. Looking forward to moving on and playing at the next level.”
The Dauphin Kings would like to wish Jared all the best in his hockey and academic career.
5 graduating players have taken the next step. Check back tomorrow for number 6!
