The Extra Point

February 14, 2015

card1

The Dauphin Kings scored a big victory against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines Saturday night at Credit Union Place, winning 3-2 in a shootout.

Kirklan Lycar and Connor Shaw were the standouts in contest for the Kings. Lycar (16) had a goal and the winner in the shootout while Shaw (6-5) made 14 saves on 16 shots.

The affair was a tight one. After going up 1-0 early on Chance Thomas’ 17th of the season the Kings fell behind 2-1 following two quick tallies by Wayway. Dauphin stuck with their game in the second period and Lycar eventually tied things up on a rebound. There was no scoring in the third but both teams came close, same goes for overtime. Connor Shaw made a huge toe save in the fourth period to keep Dauphin alive. Kirklan Lycar then stepped up in the shootout, he was the final shooter for Dauphin. Shaw then made the game winning save after.

The Kings were pretty disciplined in the contest, and didn’t have to kill off any power plays, Wayway had to kill four. Dauphin ended the night 0 for 4 on the Man advantage. As mentioned Connor Shaw made 14 saves in the tilt, the Kings had 24 on Mitch Wiebe.

3 Stars

3. Mitch Wiebe (WAY) (22 saves)
2. Connor Shaw (DAU) (14 saves)
1. Kirklan Lycar (DAU) (1G + Shootout winner)

The victory is the Kings’ 20th of the season, improving their record to 20-28-6. They’re now two points clear of Waywayseecappo for eighth in the standings. Dauphin gets the next few days off. Their next game is also a key one, it comes on Tuesday in Wayway. Game time is 7:30pm. Follow me on Twitter for free updates!
