Last Home Game

February 24, 2015

The Dauphin Kings will try to close out their regular season home schedule on a high tonight when they welcome the OCN Blizzard to Credit Union Place.

The Kings are looking to stay up on the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Coming into this contest Dauphin leads Wayway by two points for eighth in the standings, but the Kings have played one extra game.

February has been a bit of an opposite month for Dauphin. Usually this year they’ve been at or above .500 at home and below .500 on the road. Right now in the second month of 2015 the Kings are 1-3-0 at home and 3-2-0 as the visitor. This season at home the Kings are 13-12-4.

Tune in to tonight’s game on FASTHockey. It starts at 7:00pm. Before the contest make sure you listen to the One Hour Power Play Show on CKDM. It’s a special Tuesday edition and it starts at 4:00pm this afternoon. If you can’t watch the game tonight then follow me on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM)!

Here’s Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marlin Murray on today’s contest, but first we start with chat on tonight’s awards and why the team decided to hand them out during the final game of their season, rather than at a banquet at the end of their year…

UPDATE:

Dauphin Kings prospects and current Parkland Rangers Tyler Derkach, Matthew Greening and Daniel Chartrand will be in the lineup tonight. They will make up one forward line.

Team Stats

Kings 22-29-6 (8th): The Dauphin Kings enter tonight’s contest two points ahead of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines and have played one extra game. Scoreboard watching will once again be on tap as the Wolverines are home to the Virden Oil Capitals this evening. If the Kings are to win this evening they need to keep their urgency level up. Dauphin cannot take a night off, even though the Blizzard can’t catch them in the standings. After a successful weekend the Kings Power Play has been bumped up to seventh in the MJHL (15.33%) while their Penalty Kill finds itself in ninth (81.67%). Chance Thomas leads the Kings in goals with 18 and he’s also atop the club in points with 45.

NEAT STATS GOING IN

Drake Bodie is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 1A).

Landon Plett is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 1A).

Connor Shaw has won 4 straight starts.

Blizzard 18-34-4 (10th): After the OCN Blizzard made a coaching change earlier this season they seemed to be going in the right direction. However, the month of February has not been very nice to OCN. They’ve lost four straight coming in to tonight. This month they’ve only won one game out of eight. Even though they’ve been playing below their potential lately, I could still see the Blizzard upsetting Selkirk in the survivor series, if that match up happens. OCN is a team that could get hot very quick. The Blizzard Special Teams remain similar to Dauphin’s. OCN’s Power Play is ninth in the MJHL at 14.53% while their Penalty Kill is seventh at 82.62%. Rookie Devin Muir (19G, 27A) continues to lead the Blizzard in scoring with 46 points.
