For ONE WEEK ONLY ‘Dauphin’s Kingdom’ has been flipped to ‘Ranger Road’ as the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League’s Parkland Rangers compete in the Midget West Regional for the Telus Cup.

From now until Monday April 6th (I know, it’s a little more than a week, but whatever!) the blog will feature news, scores, pictures, videos and interviews on the Parkland Rangers and the Midget West Regional tournament at Credit Union Place in Dauphin. And the best part is it’ll all be FREE to view!

Now, in case you’re freaking out and have no idea what’s going on, let me bring you up to speed.

The Parkland Rangers are the hosts of this year’s Midget West Regional which will see the winner go to the 2015 Telus Cup in Quebec.

The Midget West Regional runs from Thursday April 2nd to Sunday April 5th at Credit Union Place. The tournament is a little different from the RBC Cup and Western Canada Cup which Dauphin has hosted over the last few years. The Midget West Regional is a round robin, however there are no semi finals, the tournament just goes straight to a one versus two format. So with the top two teams facing each other in the final the round robin becomes even more important.

Right now the teams that’ll take part in the event are the Parkland Rangers (HOST) and Kenora Thistles (NW. ONT). In Manitoba the AAA Midget Hockey League Champion is still to be decided. The series is heading to a deciding game five Saturday evening between the Brandon AAA Wheat Kings and Pembina Valley Hawks. The Saskatchewan representatives are still to be decided as well. As of right now the Regina Pat Canadians lead the Battlefords Stars 2-1 in their best of five series. It resumes Saturday as well.

NEAT FACT: The Dauphin Kings have 11 prospects on the Parkland Rangers, with the potential of a few more coming in to the event with Regina and Brandon.

This is what the schedule for the tournament looks like (Home team on right)…

Thursday April 2nd

Kenora Thistles (NW.ONT) vs. Parkland Rangers (HOST) – 7:30pm

Friday April 3rd

Kenora Thistles (NW.ONT) vs. MANITOBA – 4:30pm

Saturday April 4th

MANITOBA vs. Parkland Rangers (HOST) – 3:45pm

Sunday April 5th

If you’re interested in attending the Midget West Regional you can get tickets at 730 CKDM in Dauphin or at The Dauphin Herald during office hours (9am to 5pm). On Wednesday April 1st I’ll be at Credit Union Place along with local hero Ken Shaw selling tickets to the event. We’ll be selling at the Credit Union Place South Ticket Office from 10am to 5pm!

The ticket situation is pretty straight forward. A weekend pass is $35 for adults, kids 12 and under get in free. That’s for all seven games!

Tickets for the Awards Banquet are also on sale, but by pretty much the end of the day today (Friday March 27th @ 3pm) they will no longer be available. Banquet tickets are $25 each and can also be purchased at 730 CKDM and The Dauphin Herald.

Here’s a FREE article on the Awards Banquet…

Time is running out for local hockey fans to get their tickets for the Midget West Regional Awards Banquet.

The event will take place Saturday April 4th at 7:00pm in the Curling Rink at the Parkland Rec Complex. Along with great food from Irving’s Catering (Roast Beef) will be guest speaker, former NHLer Theoren Fleury. Hubert Carriere is one of the organizers for the Banquet. He says the Stanley Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medalist will have lots to talk about.

“He’s a very knowledgeable guy, he’s been around the world in every capacity and we’re really looking forward to having him speak at the banquet. He’s gonna talk about what it takes to make it to the NHL. Theo was a very small player and everyone said he wouldn’t make it and he showed them he could and became one of the best players in the NHL.”

Of course the banquet will also see awards given out for the round robin of the tournament. When it comes to hardware it’ll be pretty typical when it comes to the type of awards handed out says Carriere.

“Pretty straight forward. The awards will be the MVP of the tournament, Top forwards, D-man, Goalie and such.”

Carriere says they’ll be doing something fun with the teams at the end of the event.

“We’re trying to lighten things up for the players. We’re gonna have a verse from the Stompin’ Tom Hockey Song and we’re gonna have Theo judge it. Each team will sing a verse and he’ll pick a winner.”
