Here’s what happened…

Round Robin Game 5

Regina Pat Canadians – 4
Kenora Thistles – 3

The Kenora Thistles squandered a 2-0 and 3-1 lead as they couldn’t handle the powerful Saskatchewan AAA Midget Hockey League Champion Regina Pat Canadians. Six of the seven goals in the contest were scored on the man advantage, three by each team. After going downs 3-1 in the second period on a 5 on 3 Power Play the Regina Pat Canadians flipped their goalies and replaced Clarke Flegel with Curtis Meger. The move seemed to light the team on fire as they came back to win the contest 4-3 and clinch a spot in Sunday’s final. Brendan Bartlett was a standout for the Thistles, he had two goals. The Pat Canadians had goals from four different players. The win against Kenora gave Regina the tie breaker over the Thistles (Head to head). Both clubs finished with a record of 1-1-1!

Round Robin Game 6

Pembina Valley Hawks – 6
Parkland Rangers – 3

With the result earlier in the day both teams in the later game still had a shot at making the final. Pembina Valley just needed a victory, while Parkland had to win by at least four goals to get a tiebreaker. A quick start by the Hawks did the Rangers in though. Ty Enns scored 2:38 into the contest and Pembina Valley never gave up the lead. Parkland scored a couple goals in the third to cut the lead in half, but their tournament was unfortunately over before the start of the third period. The Rangers got goals from Matthew Greening, Andrew Liwiski and Andrew Bayduza.

Here’s a FREE interview with Rangers Head Coach Doug Hedley. I was very tired after the game so I let Dauphin Herald ACE Sports Reporter Doug Zywina ask most of the questions. We start with the fact that all the games were meaningful for the Rangers, right down to the final day of the round robin…
