Midget West Regional: Final Day Recap

April 5, 2015

The Regina Pat Canadians used a strong second period to roll to a 7-1 victory over the Pembina Valley Hawks in the final of the Telus Cup Midget Regional.

Regina got goals from five different players with Tyran Brown and Riley Woods notching two in the contest. Woods’ goal at the 8:55 mark of the middle frame turned out to be the winner.

Starting goaltender Curtis Meger took the victory between the pipes for Regina. He faced just 18 shots, including four in the first period and five in the second. Round robin MVP Travis Klassen was given the loss for Pembina Valley but couldn’t be faulted on any of the goals. He stopped 34 of 41.

There were a lot of Power Plays in the affair, Regina had eight, scoring on five of them. Pembina Valley had just two. I would credit Regina for being very disciplined in the contest and that’s why the infractions were so one sided, at least in my opinion.

The Pat Canadians are now off to the Telus Cup which takes place in Riviere-du-Loup, Quebec April 20-26.

NEAT STAT: In it’s now 32 year existence the Midget West Regional has been won by Saskatchewan 23 times, North Western Ontario has taken the title five times and Manitoba four.

Players of the Game

After the contest I spoke with Regina’s Head Coach Brad Herauf. We start with his reaction to winning the tournament after his team was on life support Friday night against the Parkland Rangers…

Sandy Ellingson was one of the Co-Chairs for the Midget West Regional. I spoke with her on the event overall and how it looks like it was a great success…

Congratulations to everyone involved in the tournament for the successful event. This blog will return to Dauphin’s Kingdom on Monday morning. The Kings are getting set for Spring Camp which fires up this Friday in Dauphin.
