Strong Third Powers Virden Past Dauphin

The Dauphin Kings suffered their first regulation loss in the pre season Friday night at Credit Union Place, dropping a 4-2 decision to the visiting Virden Oil Capitals.

A bad third period did the Kings in this time around. Dauphin entered the final frame up 2-1 but couldn’t seal the deal. Goal scorers Friday night for the Kings were Kirklan Lycar and Chance Thomas.

I really liked Dauphin’s first period. The middle frame was pretty even from both sides while the third was mostly Virden. The Kings did have multiple chances to go up 3-1 or get the game a bit closer when the score was 4-2, but puck luck wasn’t on their side. Drake Bodie had an open net to shoot at off a rebound, but the puck hopped over his stick. Those were the type of things that took place for Dauphin in the second half of the third period. Netminder Sean Kuehn also played well for the Oil Capitals and made some solid saves throughout the tilt. On the other side Troy Martyniuk made some good saves at times and wasn’t the reason Dauphin lost. Final shots were 31-22 for Virden. Power Plays had Dauphin going 1 for 3 while Virden was 0 for 2.

Either way, an outcome like this will be better for the Kings in the long run. After all, you learn more when you lose than when you win.

Dauphin concludes the exhibition season Saturday night on the road. They’ll have a rematch with the Oil Caps at Tundra Oil & Gas Place, opening face off is pegged for 7:30pm. Follow me on Twitter for updates!

Thanks for following tonight…
