September 25, 2015

The Dauphin Kings open their 2015-16 MJHL campaign tonight at Credit Union Place when they host the Neepawa Natives.

The arena is expected to be packed with fans, as this contest is free to attend thanks to the Dauphin Clinic Pharmacy. The DCP bought all the remaining tickets for the game and have been giving them away over the last couple weeks. By the sounds of it over 1500 tickets have been distributed.

If you can’t make it to the game or live out of town there’s no need to worry, the tilt will be broadcast on 730 CKDM and FASTHockey. The Parkland Source for Sports Pre Game Show on 730 CKDM begins around 6:45pm. We’ll listen in on player introductions and then get right to the game.

Earlier in the afternoon make sure you listen to the One Hour Power Play Show on 730 CKDM. It goes from 4:00pm to 5:00pm LIVE from MR MIKES in Dauphin. The show will feature of a number of interviews this week. During the regular season I’ll write show previews, but this week I just didn’t have time because I’ve been so busy. Expect to hear chats with Kings Head Coach & GM Marlin Murray, players Kirklan Lycar, Chance Thomas and Daniel Chartrand, RAPID FIRE with Tyler Garrioch, an interview with Doug Hedley, Head Coach of the Parkland Rangers and lots more.

Here’s Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marlin Murray on this evening’s affair…

Here’s a FREE SAMPLE from today’s One Hour Power Play Show. It’s RAPID FIRE with Tyler Garrioch, the first edition of the 2015-16 season…

Kings (0-0-0) (Last year: 23-31-6 – 9th): Normally we talk about important stats in this section, but with the season just getting started we won’t have much to bounce off of. During the pre season the Kings went 4-1-2, a respectable record for exhibition play. However we all know the pre season doesn’t mean anything. The good news for Dauphin heading into the start of the season is the familiarity the team has. Yes they’ve added some key veteran players and some key local talent, but most of the core is still there. The injury situation is getting better for the Kings, but they are still not 100% healthy. So expect a couple key players to missing tonight.

Natives (0-0-0) (Last year: 15-42-3 – 11th): The Neepawa Natives continue the rebuilding process as they enter the 2015-16 season. The Natives will be looking to snap a five season drought of missing the MJHL playoffs. This year has the potential to be a very long one for Neepawa, but if they can get rolling later in the season they might make a push for a spot in the survivor series. Neepawa might be a dangerous team to play at the start of the year, because no one really knows what to expect and that could catch you off guard. Regardless, the first game of the season is always entertaining. Don’t forget, these two teams meet again tomorrow night in Neepawa.
