Deja Vu For Kings In Neepawa

September 26, 2015

For the second straight game the Dauphin Kings heavily outplayed the Neepawa Natives, but weren’t rewarded for it, losing 5-2 Saturday night.

It’s only two games into the season, but Dauphin’s first period Saturday night was their best of the young campaign. Dauphin dominated Neepawa in the opening frame but got just one goal out of it.

The Kings’ Special Teams were much better in this contest, going 2 for 7 on the Power Play and 3 for 4 on the Penalty Kill. Kirklan Lycar had both goals for Dauphin.

Twenty year old Troy Pierce was once again the reason Neepawa beat Dauphin. He stopped 42 of 44 shots officially, but those were extremely under inflated. Dauphin had at least 50 shots Saturday, putting them to right under 100 shots for the first two games of the season. To go with the shots the Kings had well over 10 scoring chances. They just didn’t have much finish for the second straight game.

Whoever names the players of the week for the MJHL would be stupid not to give it to Pierce this time around.

Connor Shaw meanwhile turned aside 27 of 31 shots. I personally belive Neepawa’s shots on goal were a little inflated. It was a tough game for Shaw to play in because he didn’t have much to do until the second period.

So the Kings slip to 0-2-0 to start the season. Neepawa meanwhile jumps to 2-0-0. The Natives actually started the year 2-0-0 last season, and we all know what happened after.

Dauphin will look forward to the return of some key players this week. Their next game happens Tuesday when they visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Game time is 7:30pm.

Thanks for following tonight!
