The Dauphin Kings look for their first win of the regular season tonight when they visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

After a weekend that saw them outscored 10-4 by the Neepawa Natives the Kings will try to be tighter defensively. In both contests against Neepawa last week Dauphin also gave up a couple goals in a short span of time. Two in ten seconds on Friday and two in less than five minutes on Saturday. The issue is something they had problems with in the early stages of last year as well. However, the Kings outplayed Neepawa for most of the weekend which is a positive to take from the first two games.

As stressed a couple times during broadcasts, there is no need for fans to panic. Let’s remember the Kings are still hurting on the blue line and are eagerly awaiting reinforcements. Will they get it tonight? Stay tuned. In case you missed it yesterday the Kings traded 20 year old forward Kurt Sonne to the Winkler Flyers for future considerations. Another minor indication that the team is getting healthier.

You can hear this evening’s contest on 730 CKDM. The Parkland Source for Sports Pre Game Show begins at 7:15pm, puck drop at 7:30pm. If you can’t listen you can follow on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM)!

Intermissions: During tonight’s broadcast you’ll hear the first edition of RAPID FIRE for this season with Kings forward Tyler Garrioch. In the second intermission, and throughout the night we’ll also check in on the out of town scoreboard. It’s a semi busy night in the MJHL with two other games going on. Virden is home to Swan Valley and Winnipeg is in Winkler. Also the Toronto Blue Jays and Winnipeg Jets are in action in MLB and the NHL.

Kings 0-2-0: You have to believe if the Dauphin Kings keep their shot and scoring chance paces up they’re going to start winning games eventually. Over the weekend the Kings had 90 shots on the Neepawa Natives with 86 of them being stopped, officially. A sight for sore eyes on Saturday was the Dauphin Kings Power Play. It finally came around, scoring twice in Neepawa. On Friday the Kings’ Power Play was ok, it had some pressure but never broke through. Right now Dauphin’s official man advantage stats are 2 for 14, which is fifth in the MJHL. Their Penalty Kill sits in seventh at 80% (8 for 10). Kirklan Lycar leads the Kings in scoring with two goals, both of them came on Saturday.

Wolverines 0-1-0: A slow start to the season for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. They had just one game during the opening weekend, a 3-2 loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders. As mentioned in the Power Rankings at the start of the season, I expect Wayway to be a decent team this year. One that makes the playoffs and possibly wins a round or two. In their first game of the season the Wolverines went 1 for 8 on the Power Play and 6 for 8 on the Penalty Kill. Wayway will be led by Riley Zimmer this year, the 18 year old had a goal in the first game and had 36 points (10G, 26A) in 34 games last season for the Wolverines. Alex Keena (1G, 1A) and Johl Swedlo (0G, 2A) lead Wayway in points through one contest.
