Offensive Showcase

October 3, 2015

The Dauphin Kings put forth an excellent effort as they picked up a 6-5 overtime victory against the Winnipeg Blues Saturday night.

Dauphin looked much better in their second MJHL Showcase game, finishing checks, working hard down low and capitalizing on their scoring chances.

The Kings started the scoring early, with Chance Thomas grabbing his second of the season less than two minutes in. Winnipeg responded, but as was the story for the rest of the night Dauphin battled back from adversity. Other scorers for the Kings were Shaq Houle (1), David Brumm (3), Matthew Greening (1) and Kirklan Lycar (3 & 4). A couple of the goals were very pretty and fun to watch, including Lycar’s winner and Brumm’s tally to put the Kings up 4-3 in the third.

Connor Shaw (2-2) took the win between the pipes for the Kings. He looked strong, making a couple key saves in both the second and third periods. In total he stopped 24 of the 29 shots he faced. Dauphin had 24 shots on Winnipeg goalie Scott Parsons.

The only real negative for the Kings Saturday night was their Power Play. It didn’t score on five opportunities. Winnipeg had two goals on eight chances.

It’s a confidence building win for the Kings who improve to 2-3-0 on the young MJHL season. They’ll now return home for a one off before going back out on the road for two straight next week. Dauphin hosts the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at Credit Union Place on Tuesday at 7:00pm.
