Sixteen Goals

October 9, 2015

The Dauphin Kings out shot the Selkirk Steelers and scored seven goals Friday night, normally that would be enough for two points but not this time.

Dauphin ended up losing 9-7 to Selkirk in an old fashioned shootout.

It started early with the Steelers going up 2-0 in the first 35 seconds. The Kings responded well, scoring four unanswered to take a 4-2 lead. By the time the second period came to an end the Kings trailed 6-5. They then tied it up in the final frame before falling behind for good.

Goals in order for the Kings Friday were scored by Drake Bodie (1), Chance Thomas (4), Kirklan Lycar (5), Tyler Garrioch (2), Matthew Greening (2), Kirklan Lycar (6) again and Kyle Bird (1).

Goaltending was not good on both sides. Jarrod Schamerhorn (1-1) started the game for the Kings but did not finish it, stopping 14 of 20 shots. Connor Shaw replaced him at the start of the third and turned aside just four of six.

If there was a bright spot in this game it was the Kings Power Play which finished the night 4 for 9. Their Penalty Kill was 1 for 1.

Dauphin’s offence was alive and well Friday night, but their defence and goaltending wasn’t. It’s really that simple.

The Kings will get a quick shot at redemption Saturday night when they visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Game time is 7:30pm in Wayway. Follow me for updates.

Thanks for following tonight…
