Familiar Faces

October 10, 2015

After last night’s 16 goal affair in Selkirk the Dauphin Kings will try and rebound and get back to .500 as they visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for the second time this season.

Both teams are likely getting tired of seeing one another this early in the year. This is the third meeting overall between the two clubs, the Kings have taken both games so far. They won 6-4 in Wayway near the start of the campaign and 4-3 earlier this week in Dauphin. After tonight the two groups won’t face off again until the middle of November.

As mentioned, the Kings are coming off a 16 goal game that saw them lose 9-7 to the Selkirk Steelers. The Wolverines won at home last night, 2-1 over the Virden Oil Capitals. So they’ll be well rested while Dauphin battles more travel. Although today’s trip is much shorter.

Follow me for updates from tonight’s game (@ChristianCKDM). The contest gets going at 7:30pm. I won’t be broadcasting this game because of the Winnipeg Blue Bomber game, it’s scheduled to start at 9:00pm on 730 CKDM.

Team Stats

Kings 3-4-0: Following yesterday’s loss in Selkirk the Dauphin Kings are now the second highest scoring team in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The only problem is they’re also the team that has given up the most goals so far this year. The Kings have scored 27 goals for and given up 34 against. If Dauphin can ever get rolling defensively they’ll be a force to be reckoned with, but for now the tweaking continues. After a very successful night for the Power Play the Kings man advantage jumped up almost 10%. It went from over 6.67% to 15.38% which is ninth in the MJHL. On the Penalty Kill side the Kings are at 77.78% which is seventh in the league. Two 18 year olds lead Dauphin in points following yesterday. Kirklan Lycar (6G, 2A) and Matthew Greening (2G, 6A) both have eight.

Chance Thomas is on a 3 game point streak (3G, 0A).

Matthew Greening is on a 3 game point streak (2G, 5A).

Tyler Garrioch is on a 3 game point streak (2G, 2A).

Drake Bodie is on a 3 game point streak (1G, 4A).

Sam Schultz is on a 3 game point streak (1G, 2A).

Romano Morrison is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 2A).

Taran Lacquette is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 2A).

Rory Davidson is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 2A).

Wolverines 2-4-1: Waywayseecappo enters tonight’s tilt with a chance to leap frog the Kings in the standings. It’s early obviously but the Wolverines are just one point back of Dauphin. Wayway will be riding high coming into tonight after beating a defensively strong Virden Oil Capitals team 2-1 last night at home. The Wolverines continue to have solid Special Teams. Their Power Play is now up to fourth in the MJHL at 26.67% while their Penalty Kill sits at fourth as well, 83.78%. The Wolverines are the second most penalized team in the league right now, behind only Neepawa. However, they’ve almost always played well on the Special Teams side of things on home ice over the last few years, so if you think the Kings will have another good night on the man advantage you might want to think again. Riley Zimmer (1G, 6A) is on top of the Wolverines in scoring with seven points.
