The Dauphin Kings kick off a two game in two night home stand tonight when they welcome the Winnipeg Blues to Credit Union Place.

Dauphin is 1-1-0 at Credit Union Place so far this season. It’s the second meeting of the campaign between the Blues and Kings. Dauphin won the first tilt between the clubs, 6-5 in overtime at the MJHL Showcase Weekend. That game was technically a road game for the Kings.

As mentioned, tonight’s contest marks the start of two games in two nights at Credit Union Place. Tomorrow Dauphin faces the Portage Terriers. A win over Winnipeg tonight and Portage tomorrow would make a statement across the MJHL that the Kings are a considerable threat. It may be early in the season, but two wins this weekend could go a long way for Dauphin when it comes to building momentum.

Before you head to the rink tonight make sure you tune in to the One Hour Power Play Show on 730 CKDM, it features news and interviews concerning the Dauphin Kings. It begins at 4:00pm and runs until 5:00pm and will be LIVE from MR MIKES in Dauphin. If you don’t have a radio you can listen online on your computer or phone. It’s 100% FREE, click here to listen!

Watch tonight’s tilt on FASTHockey, I’ll have the broadcast starting just before puck drop which is at 7:00pm. If you can’t watch then follow me on Twitter for updates (@ChristianCKDM)!

Here’s Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marlin Murray talking about a bunch of things heading into the weekend. We start this interview with discussion on captains, and where the team is at when it comes to that situation…

Team Stats

Kings 4-4-0: A good week of practice for the Dauphin Kings as they prepare for a couple big tests this weekend. Yes the Kings beat the Winnipeg Blues earlier this season at the MJHL Showcase, but you know the Blues will want revenge after they came back from a 5-3 deficit to send that contest to overtime. GOOD NEWS: The Manitoba Junior Hockey League recently updated their Special Teams statistics, with the adjustments the Kings now have a Power Play that is moving along at 20%, that’s seventh out of all the teams, rather than tenth where it was before. Dauphin has only played two games at Credit Union Place so far this season and are still looking for their first man advantage goal on home ice. On the flip side Dauphin’s Penalty Kill is slowly rising, it’s now at 77.42% which is sixth in the league. Leading the Kings in points is Kirklan Lycar, he has ten. He also leads the team in goals with six.

Drake Bodie is on a 4 game point streak (3G, 4A).

Matthew Greening is on a 4 game point streak (2G, 6A).

Tyler Garrioch is on a 4 game point streak (2G, 3A).

Chance Thomas is on a 3 game point streak (3G, 0A).

Kirklan Lycar is on a 2 game point streak (2G, 3A).

David Brumm is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 1A).

Zack Klebaum is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 2A).

Blues 4-4-1: After snapping a lengthy losing streak on Tuesday night against the Steinbach Pistons the Winnipeg Blues will be riding high as they kick off a three game in three night stretch. They’ll visit the Kings Friday, Swan Valley Saturday and OCN on Sunday before battling the long trip home Sunday night. Before their victory against Steinbach on Tuesday the Blues had dropped four in a row, a losing streak Winnipeg has not seen a few years. A sign to me that the team is on the down slope, not by a lot, but they are trending down rather than up. I still believe the Blues will be a good team this year by the time everything is said and done, but it’s tough to replace a guy like Jackson Keane and others that recently left the club. Right now Winnipeg holds the MJHL’s ninth best Power Play at 16.28% and the top Penalty Kill at 86.67%. The Blues’ top scorer is 20 year old Kamerin Nault (6G, 8A) with 14 points, that’s seven more than the next closest player (Liam Kroeker).
