Building Momentum

November 10, 2015

The Dauphin Kings will try to win back-to-back games for the third time this season tonight when they entertain the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at Credit Union Place.

It’s the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams, Dauphin has won all three contests so far. Most recently the Kings doubled the Wolverines 4-2 in Waywayseecappo back on October 10th. Since then the clubs have separated a little in the standings. The Wolverines are tenth in the MJHL while the Kings are ninth, three points up with two games in hand. More on the games in hand in a moment.

It’s also Heroes Night for the Dauphin Kings tonight at Credit Union Place. The MJHL club will honour local heroes from the Dauphin Fire Department, RCMP and EMS. The Kings will also wear their third jerseys dedicated to the Dauphin Fire Department.

Opening face off tonight is 7:00pm. Watch the game on FASTHockey or follow me on Twitter for updates (@ChristianCKDM)!

Team Stats

Kings 7-9-0: The subject of the Dauphin Kings having a lot of games in hand on the other teams in the MJHL could come to the forefront if the club can ever get rolling. If Dauphin can string together four or five wins in a row, they could easily hop up from ninth in the league to sixth or seventh. Entering this evening the Kings have games in hand on every team in the league except Selkirk, who are even with them at 16. After tonight the Kings won’t be back at Credit Union Place until next Friday when they host the OCN Blizzard. Dauphin’s success on the Power Play Saturday in Neepawa has them back up to seventh in the league (16.67%) on the man advantage. On the Penalty Kill the Kings are at 78.48% which is also seventh. Local forward Matthew Greening (6G, 11A) leads his hometown team in points with 17. Tonight Dauphin looks to improve their record at home, which so far is a disappointing 2-5-0.

Chance Thomas is on a 4 game point streak (3G, 1A).

Tyler Garrioch is on a 3 game point streak (1G, 2A).

Matthew Greening is on a 2 game point streak (2G, 1A).

Thomas Lenchyshyn is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 1A).

David Brumm is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 1A).

Romano Morrison is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 3A).

Brandon Young is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 2A).

Wolverines 4-11-3: The Waywayseecappo Wolverines gave the Portage Terriers a bit of a scare over the weekend, forcing last year’s RBC Cup champions to overtime in a 5-4 loss. In that game Wayway never led, but came back from a 4-2 deficit in the third period. That’s Wayway though, they’re a team that never goes away, you can be up 1-0 or 5-1 and the Wolverines won’t quit. It’s helped them to success in the past. Before a win over the Swan Valley Stampeders during last week Wayway had lost six straight. Coming in they’ve lost seven of eight. The Wolverines bring in the MJHL’s worst Penalty Kill at 72.15% while their Power Play is solid, sixth in the league at 20.59%. Johl Swedlo (5G, 8A) leads the team in points with 13. Three of Waywayseecappo’s four wins this season have come on the road, they’re 3-4-2 as the visitors this year.
