Learning Curve

November 13, 2015

The Dauphin Kings played one of their best road games of the season, unfortunately it resulted in a 4-1 loss to the Winkler Flyers Friday night.

The opening period by the Kings was excellent with a lot of good signs, they carried the play for the first seven minutes and out shot the Flyers 6-1. However, Winkler was the only team able to score a goal in the frame, it was on a floater wrist shot that found its way through Dauphin netminder Jarrod Schamerhorn (6-4). The two teams went to their dressing rooms with Winkler ahead 1-0.

In the second period Dauphin continued their strong play and Tyler Derkach was rewarded with his first MJHL goal (Below). Derkach was arguably Dauphin’s best player Friday, but he was not alone when it came to bright spots. The problem was some players did not play very well either. By the time the second period came to a close the Kings were down 2-1.

The third period had the Kings start out very well, but allowing the Flyers to gain three man advantages in the third period did the club in. Dauphin only had one Power Play Friday night, Winkler had six, they scored on two of them.

Shots were pretty even. The Kings had 30 on Connor Slipp while Winkler had 33 on Jarrod Schamerhorn.

It’s Dauphin’s tenth loss of the season, putting their record at 8-10-0 on the campaign. Now the Kings get a day off, they’ll be back in action on Sunday when they visit the Winnipeg Blues at 6:30pm. Listen to the contest on CKDM, starting with Pre Game at 6:15pm.

Thanks for following tonight…
