Three For One

November 22, 2015

The Dauphin Kings made a trade late Sunday morning that saw them acquire three excellent prospects in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.

November 22nd – 11:06am – The Dauphin Kings have acquired forwards Brad Goethals (98) and Ian Briscoe (99) along with D-man Kayle Tosh (98) from the Selkirk Steelers in exchange for forward Jake Dudar (96).

Via Kings:

Dudar’s rights came to the Kings from the Virden Oil Capitals for Drake Bodie and Kyle Bird.

“After acquiring Dudar, he made it clear that he told Virden he was wanting to go closer to Winnipeg and would only report to one of the city area teams.” stated Kings Head Coach/GM Marlin Murray. “It was a surprise. There was dirty pool there. We will put that into the memory bank.”

The Kings were forced to find a trade for Dudar and they couldn’t be happier with the return.

When it comes to the players the Kings are getting in this deal it potentially sets the club up to be very good in the future.

(F) Brad Goethals

Goethals is arguably the top prospect in the deal. If you follow the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League you will know that Goethals is playing very well this season for the Eastman Selects. He currently leads the league in scoring. The Ile des Chenes product played in the MJHL earlier this year where he scored three goals against the Kings. He also played two games in the post season last year but did not register a point.

(D) Kayle Tosh

Tosh, also a part of the Eastman Selects is one of the top scoring D-men in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. With 17 points (3G, 14A) he’s fourth on Eastman in scoring.

(F) Ian Briscoe

Briscoe is in first full year with the Winnipeg Wild. He has spend time on a line with another Dauphin Kings prospect, Brendan Arnold. So far this season Briscoe has put up 16 points (7G, 9A) in 18 contests. He’s second on the Wild in scoring.

“We added three great players to our organization.” stated Kings Head Coach and GM Marlin Murray. “The future was bright before adding these young men. We feel we have an elite group moving forward.”

Although the Kings added prospects, Murray was quick to say that the focus is still on this year.

“This doesn’t mean we’re throwing in the towel this year at all.” said Murray. “We want to continue to get better and add pieces that will help us now as well. We owe that to the twenty year olds in our dressing room.”
