Kings Shut Out In Virden

November 25, 2015

The Dauphin Kings couldn’t compete with the Oil Capitals strong Special Teams Wednesday night and it cost them in a 5-0 shut out loss in Virden.

Dauphin’s first period was a good one on Wednesday. One that saw the club come close on a few chances but they were unable to bury the opportunities, including Kirklan Lycar who hit a post in the middle stages of the frame.

Dauphin went into the first intermission down 1-0. At the start of the second period they had a lengthy 5-on-3 but couldn’t finish on it. Virden then went up the ice and got a man advantage of their own and scored on it. Two minutes later they added another. The third period saw the Kings out shoot Virden by a wide margin (20-6), but again there was no finish.

Dauphin lost goaltender Jarrod Schamerhorn in the second period after he made a huge left pad save. He left the contest with a lower body injury and will be reevalueated Thursday. Virden out shot the Kings 40-33.

Special Teams had the Kings finish the night 0 for 6 on the Power Play and 5 for 7 on the Penalty Kill. Virden scored two goals on their first three PP chances.

The loss drops Dauphin to 9-12-1 on the capaign. They don’t get much time off as they’ll prepare for two games in two nights at Credit Union Place on Friday (Selkirk) and Saturday (Virden).
