Terriers Bite Kings

December 2, 2015

It was deja vu for the Dauphin Kings Wednesday night in Portage as a bad five minutes in the third period cost the team a couple points in a 4-1 loss to the Terriers.

Dauphin entered the final frame with a 1-0 lead and were playing excellent. Much like early in November where they also had a shot at a couple points. However a quick turn over in the early stages of the third turned the contest around in Portage’s favour. The Terriers went on to score three quick goals before the seven minute mark.

Chance Thomas (10) had Dauphin’s lone goal early in the first period.

The Kings had many bright spots in the affiar. Arguably the biggest was Brandon Holtby (2-10) in goal who made a number of sensational saves including a massive one in the third period to keep Dauphin up 1-0 at the time. The save might be the save of the year. It felt like if the Kings could have got the second goal they would have won the game, but because they didn’t the fifth ranked club in Canada eventually broke through and made them pay.

Portage out shot Dauphin 39-20 in the tilt while Special Teams saw the Kings go 0 for 6, Portage finished 0 for 5.

Brad Goethals made his debut with the Kings and showed well. The leading scorer in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League generated some chances and looked good on a line with fellow Eastman forward Kirklan Lycar and American Keaton Leininger.

The loss sends Dauphin to 10-14-1 on the year. There were a lot of positives for the club Wednesday night and they’ll look to build off them when they get back into action on Friday. They’ll host the Neepawa Natives at Credit Union Place, the contest is Teddy Bear Toss Night in Dauphin. Listen to the One Hour Power Play that afternoon on CKDM, it runs from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.
