Kings Host Teddy Bear Toss

December 4, 2015

The Dauphin Kings and Neepawa Natives square off at Credit Union Place tonight, the first time since the start of the season.

It’s the start of a three game home stand for the Kings, they’ll host Selkirk Saturday and Swan Valley on Tuesday. From now until the Christmas break Dauphin will play six of eight contests on home ice. So far this season the Kings are 4-5-1 at Credit Union Place.

Dauphin enters this weekend with four games in hand on both the OCN Blizzard and Swan Valley Stampeders, two teams in front of them in the standings. OCN has 26 points, Swan Valley has 25 and the Kings have 21.

Watch tonight’s contest on FASTHockey, opening face off is 7:00pm. Before the game you can hear the One Hour Power Play Show on CKDM, it runs from 4:00pm to 5:00pm. PREVIEW HERE! Follow me for updates during tonight’s game on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM)!

FYI: I will NOT be at Saturday’s game between Dauphin and Selkirk. I will be attending an event at the Winnipeg Jets game Saturday afternoon and likely won’t be back in time for the Kings game. Maybe the third period but that’s pushing it. So if you’re wondering why there is no play-by-play Saturday, now you know!

In Case You Missed It:

Brandon Holtby’s massive save against the Portage Terriers on Wednesday night…

The Dauphin Kings’ involvement in the community continues to grow and Thursday one of their players was recognized for it so far this season.

Kings forward Kirklan Lycar is the MJHL’s Peak Performer of the month.

Lycar was recognized for continuing to be a dedicated community volunteer and his time spent around the city of Dauphin and at local schools. Once a week, the 18-year-old along with his teammates, are involved serving hot lunches to elementary students. Along with that Lycar takes part in supervising classroom activities and recess.

The forward also joins two of his teammates in the Can Skate program, teaching youth proper skating skills and promoting fair play.

Team Stats

Kings 10-14-1: Overall the meeting tonight between the Dauphin Kings and Neepawa Natives is the fifth of the season. After falling in the first two get togethers Dauphin has rebounded and won two in a row against Neepawa. After this evening’s affair the two clubs will meet just once more at Credit Union Place. The key tonight for the Kings is just putting forth a full 60 minute effort with consistency and not take Neepawa lightly because the Natives are a hardworking club, even though they’ve lost four straight. Special Teams continue to be hit and miss for Dauphin. Their Penalty Kill was excellent Wednesday night in Portage, going 5 for 5. That stat got bumped up to 77.78% which is 6th in the MJHL. Dauphin’s Power Play did not score on six chances in Portage though. Yes, the Terriers do have the best PK in the league but the Kings still had a number of chances. Coming into tonight Dauphin’s PP is 9th in the MJHL at 16.67%. Kirklan Lycar (11G, 9A) and Matthew Greening (7G, 13A) still lead the club in points with 20.

Romano Morrison is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 2A).

Natives 6-22-0: The Neepawa Natives rebuild continues. After a 2-0 start to the campaign and a mention on the CJHL Top 20 the Natives have gone straight downhill. They’ve won four games since that opening weekend and just once in the last month. Obviously if you’re Dauphin you must not let you guard down. Selkirk did in November and it cost them two points. Neepawa’s Special Teams are both at the bottom of the league. Their Power Play is 11th at 9.68% and their Penalty Kill is 10th at 68.85%. The Natives have given up a league worst five shorthanded goals against as well. Brayden Atkinson (5G, 11A) is Neepawa’s top scorer with 16 points. The Natives are 3-11-0 on the road the season.
