December 7, 2015

It’s another important week for the Dauphin Kings when it comes to moving up in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s standings.

Before we talk about the road ahead let’s quickly recap what’s in the rear view mirror in case you missed it. Last week the Kings lost two and won one. They came up short to the Portage Terriers on Wednesday evening. Despite a good 40 minutes the Kings couldn’t get the second goal of the tilt and ended up falling 4-1 on the road. They then returned home on Friday to defeat the Neepawa Natives 5-2. After that a disappointing 5-0 loss to the Selkirk Steelers on Saturday.

This week’s schedule for Dauphin begins early. On Tuesday the Kings kick off a key home and home series with the Swan Valley Stampeders. Opening face off is 7:00pm Tuesday night at Credit Union Place. Then on Wednesday the two teams meet again in Swan River, hear the affair on 730 CKDM at 7:30pm. Then Dauphin has two days off before their first game on the weekend. Saturday they’ll entertain the Virden Oil Capitals (7:00pm). That night is also the TRACTOR LOTTO DRAW, meaning you have less than a week to get your tickets.

The Kings close out the weekend on Sunday when they host the Winkler Flyers (7:00pm). I’ll have more later this week. You can also check here Saturday night (After the game) for TRACTOR LOTTO WINNERS.

Three ‘s Of The Week

3. Brandon Holtby

The Dauphin Kings’ netminder showed well in his first week with the Kings. Despite a 1-2 record through three games Holtby made some key saves along the way and made arguably the save of the year in the MJHL (Below) in Dauphin’s 4-1 loss to Portage. Holtby’s record is 3-11 coming into this week, he leads the Kings in save percentage at .893.

2. Kirklan Lycar

The Lycar seems to be picking up speed after a goal scoring slump last month. The former Eastman Select had two goals last week for the Kings, both Friday against the Neepawa Natives. Lycar scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal at Credit Union Place that evening then finished a nice pass from Landon Plett later on. With 13 goals and nine assists Lycar leads the team in goals and scoring (22 pts). Watch the Teddy Bear Toss goal for FREE below…

1. Chance Thomas

Chance Thomas continues to put up points at a solid pace. Last week he had three points in three games (2G, 1A). Thomas is fourth on the Kings in scoring with 11 goals and six assists for 17 points. He’s second on the team in goals. Thomas scored a fun goal Friday night against Neepawa, watch it from three angles below…
