Stampeders Edge Kings In OT

December 8, 2015

The Dauphin Kings didn’t trail until the end of the game in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders Tuesday night at Credit Union Place.

The Kings’ start Tuesday was excellent, it saw them go up 2-0 in the first five minutes. Then after Swan pushed back in the middle stages of the first but the Kings went back up by two early in the middle frame. The Stampeders eventually came back in the second to tie things up at three. Then Dauphin regained the lead in the final period before Swan Valley evened it up on the Power Play.

Special Teams once again cost the Kings two points. They gave up three man advantage goals to the Stampeders and failed to score on their lone Power Play opportunity Tuesday. Swan Valley finished the evening 3 for 6 on the PP, Dauphin was 0 for 1. The Kings likely deserved a couple more chances on the man advantage, but some of the penalties they took were not good ones and could have been avoided.

The Stampeders scored three of their goals Tuesday from the point, including the OT winner. Picking up goals for the Kings were Daniel Chartrand (2), Aaron Kellogg (1), Landon Plett (6) and Keaton Leininger (8).

Brandon Holtby (3-12) took the loss between the pipes for Dauphin, he stopped 33 shots. The Kings put 33 shots on former Parkland Ranger Brett Evans (4-6). The Grandview product looked shaky at times but made timely saves to get his team the victory.

The Kings do gain a point from the overtime loss as they fall to 11-15-2 on the season, however this outcome will likely feel like a regulation loss for the club considering they were in control until the late stages of the third period. Dauphin will get a chance for revenge when they head north to Swan River to play the Stampeders in the back end of the home-and-home set. Listen to the game on 730 CKDM, Pre Game is 7:15pm with opening face off at 7:30pm.
