Kings Fall Short In Swan River

December 10, 2015

The Dauphin Kings played one of their better games of the season, but couldn’t grab any points in a 4-3 loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders Wednesday night.

The Kings had a great start to the affair and dominated the first five minutes. At the end of that span Brad Goethals (4) scored his first as a Dauphin King, a beauty as he deked out three Swan Valley players including the netminder (Below). Dauphin’s first period overall was excellent, and they could have been up a few more if they finished on some chances.

In the second the Kings battled and gave up two goals to fall behind 2-1. However in the third they came out and dominated again for the first handful of minutes. Aaron Kellogg (2) was able to fire one home, tying the game up at two. After that the Kings slowed down again for about a four minute span and it cost them at least a point. Romano Morrison (4) made it close with 33 seconds left, but Dauphin couldn’t get the game to OT.

Overall, as I said, it was one of the better games by the Kings and it’s something for them to build off of moving forward.

Special Teams had Dauphin finish 1 for 2 on the Power Play and 3 for 4 on the Penalty Kill. Shots had The Kings fire 31 on Swan Valley’s goal while the Stampeders launched 34 on Brandon Holtby (3-13).

The road ahead isn’t much easier for the Kings as they get closer to the Christmas break. Get used to hearing the words ‘Virden Oil Capitals’ for the next few days, Dauphin plays them in three of their next four. They’re now 11-16-2. Saturday night the Kings return to the ice against Virden. The game will be their 30th of the season, the midway point of the campaign…
