Kings, Murray Part Ways

December 11, 2015

After 13 years together the Dauphin Kings and Marlin Murray have gone their separate ways.

The club announced this morning (December 11th) that the two sides could not come together when it came to a contract extension. Now former Assistant Coach Marc Berry will take over as Head Coach and GM on an interim basis while Cody Nelson remains with the club as an Assistant Coach.

Murray spent 13 seasons with Kings, 10 of those were as Head Coach and GM. He started in 2003 as an Assistant Coach and took over as Head Coach in 2006. From then until now Murray racked up 367 wins and 166 losses. Highlights of his career with Dauphin include four Sher-Wood Division Championships, an Anavet Cup Championship and he set Franchise record for games coached, wins and National Championship appearances (2).

Marc Berry is now looking forward to the challenge of being Head Coach and GM…

Before moving forward I would like to take this time to thank Marlin Murray for all his help over the last five years I have been in Dauphin and worked with him. The first time I spoke with him was in a post game interview after one of the round robin games at the 2010 RBC Cup in Dauphin. Following the interview he thanked me and called me a “breath of fresh air”. At the time I was very greatful for his comments and they gave me confidence moving forward. Over the years there were ups and downs for both of us, but we would always find ways to get through the adversity. Marlin Murray was someone I didn’t just work with, he was a friend and I wish him and his family all the best in the future.

I will return tomorrow with a preview of the Kings/Oil Capitals game. Don’t forget the Tractor Lotto happens at Credit Union Place tomorrow night as well, so be sure to get your tickets!
