Two To Go

December 18, 2015

The Dauphin Kings play their second to last game before the Christmas break tonight when they host the Virden Oil Capitals at Credit Union Place.

It’s the final home game of 2015 for Dauphin, they’ll head to Virden Saturday to complete the home-and-home set between the two clubs.

The Kings are coming off a 4-2 victory over the Winkler Flyers on Sunday while the Virden Oil Capitals beat the Swan Valley Stampeders by that same score on Tuesday. In three games this season between the two clubs the Oil Capitals have won all the contests. Dauphin hasn’t really put forth a great effort in any of the meetings so far. Pretty much all the games between the two clubs have been decided by Special Teams.

Puck drop tonight is 7:00pm. Tune in to the game on FASTHockey, if you can’t then follow me on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM) for updates! Don’t forget the One Hour Power Play Show happens this afternoon on 730 CKDM, it starts at 4:00pm and goes until 5:00pm. PREVIEW THE SHOW HERE!

Here’s Kings Head Coach and GM Marc Berry ahead of this evening’s tilt, starting with how the week of practice went…

The Dauphin Kings will hold their annual ‘Skate with the Kings’ tonight after the game with the Virden Oil Capitals, so make sure you bring your skates to Credit Union Place. Also tonight, any minor hockey player who wears their team’s jersey will get their parents into the game for just $10!

Team Stats

Kings 12-17-2: Following Sunday’s 4-2 win over the Winkler Flyers the Dauphin Kings must continue to play well if they’re going to come away with two points tonight. A 60 minute effort was key in the Kings’ win over the Flyers and it will be tonight against Virden. Games in hand are still there for the Kings, and they’ll likely be there at the start of the new year as well. Right now Dauphin has games in hand on every club in the league, except Selkirk. That includes four on OCN and five on Swan Valley, two clubs just ahead of them in the standings. Swan Valley is off tonight while OCN is in Portage and Selkirk is in Steinbach. Dauphin’s Special Teams will look to improve on home ice tonight, their Power Play is 9th at 15.23% while their Penalty Kill is at 77.78% which is 7th overall. Kirklan Lycar (13G, 13A) leads the Kings in points with 26. Dauphin is 2-2-1 at home so far this month.

Oil Capitals 22-11-0: The Virden Oil Capitals have picked up their game since the start of November and continue to slowly move up the standings. The next two contests are important for Virden as they look to get closer to Steinbach for third overall. Coming into this evening the Oil Capitals are six points behind the Pistons for third, and they have a game in hand. Virden will enter the Christmas break in fourth as they have a six point gap on either side of them with the Winnipeg Blues in fifth. Virden has won four in a row coming into tonight. The Oil Capitals Special Teams have their Power Play ranked 3rd in the MJHL at 26.28% while their Penalty Kill is 4th at 83.06%. Mack Hardy (19G, 16A) continues to lead Virden in scoring with 35 points. The Oil Capitals are very balanced in the points department, they have seven players with 20 or more. In their last 15 games Virden has lost just three times, all those times were the Steinbach Pistons.
