The Dauphin Kings are officially into the Christmas break.

Last week was a quiet one for the club, it saw them split their home-and-home set with the Virden Oil Capitals. The Kings won 2-1 on Friday and then lost 3-0 to the Oil Capitals in Virden on Saturday.

Dauphin heads into the break with two wins in their last three games and seem to be going in the right direction. The focus now is on the CJHL Trade Deadline which arrives on Sunday January 10th. The Kings are not in action that day but they do have three contests leading up to the annual deadline.

The next game for Dauphin comes on Sunday January 3rd against the OCN Blizzard at Credit Union Place. Later that week the Kings hit the road for two games in two nights. On Thursday January 7th they’ll visit the Winnipeg Blues then on Friday January 8th they’re in Selkirk to skate with the Steelers.

I’ll be back with a treat later this week…

Three ‘s Of The Week

3. Daniel Chartrand

Even though he didn’t get a point last week I thought Daniel Chartrand showed well for the Dauphin Kings. His whole line of himself, Tyler Garrioch and Stephen Sisco had some of Dauphin’s best shifts over the weekend. In fact they opened Saturday’s game in Virden with a great shift. Unfortunately the rest of the team couldn’t follow that up and it led to the club going down 3-0 in the first 5:23 of the tilt. Chartrand has four points (3G, 1A) in 24 games this season for his hometown Kings.

2. Thomas Lenchyshyn

Thomas Lenchyshyn scored Dauphin’s game winner Friday night against the Oil Capitals. The big forward is a good energy player for the Kings and did a good job at getting under the skin of a couple Virden players over the weekend. The former Eastman Select has four goals and three assists so far this season.

1. Brandon Holtby

Dauphin goalie Brandon Holtby played well last week, helping his team to two wins in three games. On Friday the Regina product made 43 saves on 44 shots for the 2-1 win. He then played solid on Satruday, turning aside 25 in a 3-0 loss to the Oil Capitals in the back end of a home-and-home. Holtby’s last three games have him posting a 2.00 Goals Against Average and a .949 Save Percentage.
