The Dauphin Kings make their final trip to the MTS Icelplex in Winnipeg tonight to battle the Blues with the game marking the start of a stretch that will see the Kings travel 1,250 kilometers in the next 11 days.

It’s the second to last meeting between the Dauphin and Winnipeg this season, they’ll face off at Credit Union Place in February.

In four meetings this year the Kings have taken three. Most recently Dauphin edged Winnipeg 2-1 in overtime at the Iceplex back on November 15th. Since then the club’s have gone their separate ways. The Blues are 5th in the MJHL while the Kings are 9th. Dauphin is looking to catch OCN for 8th and Selkirk for 7th. The Kings have seven games in hand on OCN and four on Selkirk. The Kings and Steelers meet tomorrow.

Hear tonight’s contest on 730 CKDM, it’s 100% FREE to listen to and it starts at 7:00pm. The Parkland Source for Sports Pre Game Show begins at 6:45pm. If you don’t feel like listening that’s fine, I don’t mind. You can follow me on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM) for updates too!

Intermissions: Tonight in the first intermission you’ll hear an interview with Dauphin Kings forward Landon Plett, who I think, has improved quite a bit over the last 15 games. We’ll talk about that, plus how he thinks the team’s playing right now and if they’re playing up to their potential. Also, there’s been an influx on the Dauphin Kings with a number of former Eastman Selects joining the club. We’ll touch on that as well. Also in the intermissions it’s a busy out of town scoreboard. There’s one other game in the MJHL tonight as the OCN Blizzard host the Winkler Flyers for their third game in as many nights. Elsewhere the Canola Junior Men’s and Ladies Provincial Curling Championships continue in Rivers and the Westman High School Hockey League’s Dauphin Clippers begin a tournament in Winkler. All that and more coming in the intermissions tonight.

REMEMBER: The CJHL Trade Deadline is approaching, it hits on Sunday night (January 10th). Don’t expect the Kings to be too active over the next few days. When I say that I mean between now and Saturday morning. In my career with Dauphin the Kings have only made one trade when they’ve been away on a road swing. So I don’t think they’ll be too active, but you never know…

Team Stats

Kings 14-18-2 (9th): It’s been a complete flip over the last month when it comes to the Dauphin Kings’ home and away records. As mentioned over the weekend Dauphin has won three straight at Credit Union Place and have been playing much better on home ice. On the road, however, the club has started to struggle after playing very good as the away team earlier in the season. They’ve lost five straight on the road. Dauphin’s last win away from Credit Union Place? Novemeber 15th against the Winnipeg Blues. The Kings’ Power Play enters tonight’s action 9th in the MJHL at 13.86%. On the road the Kings man advantage is at 17.86% which is 7th. On the Penalty Kill Dauphin is 7th overall at 78.65%, on the road they’re 5th at 81.33%. Kirklan Lycar (15G, 13A) leads the Kings in points with 28. Tonight’s tilt is the first of seven on the road this month for Dauphin.

Blues 19-13-6 (5th): The Winnipeg Blues started the month of December slow but finished strong with wins in four of their last five. So far in January the Blues are 1-1-0 after trading victories with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. Like the Kings, Winnipeg has 13 games this month. The Blues enter tonight four points back of the Virden Oil Capitals for 4th in the standings, but they’ve played one more game. Winnipeg will need to go on an extended winning streak if they want to finish in the top three in the MJHL. One thing the Blues have going for them are their Special Teams are very solid. On the Power Play their 4th in the in league at 22.71% while their Penalty Kill is 4th as well at 84.44%. MJHL Player of the Week Kamerin Nault (26G, 25A) leads Winnipeg in points with 51, that’s 3rd overall.
