Four Pointer

January 8, 2016

The Dauphin Kings and Steelers face off tonight in Selkirk in what will be a key game with important standings implications.

Dauphin is just two points back of Selkirk and have three games in hand on them, so a two point regulation win would be big when it comes to moving up the standings in the future.

Of course the Kings are looking to bounce back after that 6-2 loss in Winnipeg last night. If they can stay disciplined and play more good 5-on-5 hockey they’ll be fine.

Listen to tonight’s game on 730 CKDM. It starts with the Parkland Source for Sports Pre Game Show at 7:15pm. Opening face off is 7:30pm. If you can’t listen then follow me on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM)!

Intermissions: Tonight in the first intermission RAPID FIRE returns. The latest edition has Dauphin Kings forward Daniel Chartrand getting in on the action. He’ll have 20 questions in 60 seconds. Can he finish? We’ll see. Also in the intermissions we’ll check in on the out of town scoreboard. There’s lots going on considering it’s a Friday night. The Canola Men’s and Women’s Junior Provincial Curling Championships in Rivers continues. Plus the Parkland Rangers are back from the Christmas break. The Dauphin Clippers continue their tournament in Winkler and a whole lot more!

Team Stats

Kings 14-19-2 (9th): The Dauphin Kings owe the Selkirk Steelers one. Last time these two clubs met Dauphin laid a significant egg on home ice. The 5-0 loss may be considered one of the low points of this season for the club when everything is said and done. In four get togethers this year the Kings have won just once against the Steelers. The three other games were all basically decided by one goal. Both the 9-7 and 5-3 defeats had empty netters, the Kings won one of the tilts by a score of 4-3. Dauphin will look for another goal on the Power Play tonight after notching one yesterday in Winnipeg. They’re ranked 9th in the league at 14.20%. On the Penalty Kill the Kings are 8th after giving up three against (77.47%). Kirklan Lycar (15G, 13A) and Matthew Greening (9G, 19A) are tied for the lead in Kings’ scoring with 28 points. Dauphin has lost six straight road games coming in.

Matthew Greening is on a 2 game point streak (2G, 1A).

Chance Thomas is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 1A).

Romano Morrison is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 2A).

Steelers 15-21-2 (8th): The month of January is a home heavy one for the Selkirk Steelers. The club is currently on a three game home stand to start 2016 and later this month they’ll play another four in a row on home ice. The Steelers have already played 21 games on home ice. Their record is split so far at 10-10-1. Tonight’s battle will be the last between these two teams in Selkirk this season. If the playoffs were to start today, however, game one of the best-of-three survivor series would be in Selkirk between the Kings and Steelers. When it comes to Special Teams the Steelers are 8th in the MJHL on the Power Play (18.38%) and their Penalty Kill is 9th (75.74%). Selkirk’s leading scorers are Ty Kraus (16G, 23A) and Dallas Starodub (13G, 26A), they each have 39 points.
