Kings Lose 5-1 In Selkirk

January 8, 2016

An old bad habit reared its ugly head Friday night for the Dauphin Kings as the club dropped a 5-1 decision to the Selkirk Steelers.

Dauphin gave up three goals in a quick five minute span in the second period to fall behind 4-1. They couldn’t recover.

That was one of a couple of negatives for the Kings. For the second straight evening, however, there were a lot of positives. Dauphin once again scored on their Power Play, they were 1 for 3 on the night and 3 for 3 on the Penalty Kill. Keaton Leininger (9) notched Dauphin’s lone marker.

A number of players also looked good Friday night. Tyler Garrioch led the way with a number of great shifts and his line mates Daniel Chartrand and Stephen Sisco followed suit. Unfortunatley they weren’t rewarded on the score sheet. Romano Morrison and Chance Thomas also had another good game, but they couldn’t score either. Morrison over the last month has seemed to really pick up his play and you have to believe he’ll start to get more points eventually.

Brandon Holtby (6-17) took the loss in goal Friday, he stopped 27 of 32 shots aginst while the Kings fived 31 on Hayden Dola.

The loss drops Dauphin to 14-20-2 on the MJHL season. They’re now off until Tuesday when they welcome the Waywayseecappo Wolverines to Credit Union Place at 7pm.

The CJHL Trade Deadline happens on Sunday. Follow me on Twitter for updates! However, don’t expect much movement from the Kings as they like the current group of guys they have moving forward.

Thanks for following tonight…
