Dull Deadline

January 10, 2016

As expected the Dauphin Kings didn’t do much during the 2016 MJHL/CJHL Trade Deadline.

The club just made one transaction:

January 10th 5:40pm – The Dauphin Kings have traded D-man Gordon Campbell (95) to the Nipawin Hawks of the SJHL for future considerations.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Kings were so quiet on the Trade Deadline, and we’ve been over this before. Like last year Dauphin is moving forward in a different direction that sees the club bringing up a lot of youth into their line up, and a good chunk of that is local youth.

When it comes to the rest of this year I still believe this group can be competitive. Remember, the club has been without their starting goalie since late November. The Kings have showed signs of being a solid team, with wins over some of the league’s top clubs in the last few weeks. Consistency remains an important factor for this group though, and if they ever can figure that out they’ll be in good shape.

NOTE: The Kings have two cards left in their 23 total, so they can add a couple players if they want. Those players, however, must be released by their current teams by the end of Sunday night.

Moving forward the next few weeks should be exciting as Dauphin heads towards the post season. Fans might end up seeing a few players being called up from the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. The Kings want to give some of their younger players a taste of the MJHL so it will be interesting to see what happens over the next two months and who gets called up.

Here’s Kings Head Coach and GM Marc Berry discussing this year’s deadline, beginning with what his team did in the earlier stages of the day…
