Another busy week for the Dauphin Kings is set to kick off.

In case you missed it last week the MJHL club lost two games, 6-2 to Winnipeg on Thursday and 5-1 to Selkirk on Friday.

Dauphin enters this week 9th in the standings, they’re four points behind Selkirk and OCN for 7th and 8th respectively. The Kings have eight games in hand on the Blizzard and three on the Steelers.

This week the Kings have four games in six nights. On Tuesday they’ll entertain the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at Credit Union Place (7:00pm). After that Dauphin heads to the southern part of the province. On Friday they skate with the Flyers in Winkler, and then they play two games in two nights in Steinbach against the Pistons. All three games over the weekend can be heard on 730 CKDM. Friday and Saturday have 7:30pm puck drops, Sunday is 7:00pm.

Three ‘s Of The Week

3. Chance Thomas

This past week saw a handful of players on the Dauphin Kings play well, but the line of Chance Thomas, Matthew Greening and Romano Morrison was arguably the best. Thomas picked up an assist in the Kings 6-2 loss to Winnipeg on Thursday. The line he was on was easily Dauphin’s best on the night with numerous scoring chances. Thomas (12G, 7A) is fourth on the Kings with 19 points.

2. Matthew Greening

Despite playing in just one of the two games last week for the Dauphin Kings Matthew Greening still showed well with his line mates. He scored a goal and added an assist in the club’s 6-2 loss to the Winnipeg Blues on Thursday night. Unfortunately Greening received a Match Penalty in the third period and was knocked out of the game. With the infraction the local forward has been suspended three games, meaning he won’t be eligable to return to action until Saturday (Jan. 16) when the Kings visit the Steinbach Pistons. Greening (9G, 19A) is second on the Kings in points with 28.

1. Romano Morrison

Like Chance Thomas, Romano Morrison only had one point last week. It was an assist in the club’s loss to the Winnipeg Blues. However, Morrison was very good for the Kings in their two losses. Most notably winning battles on the boards and gaining scoring opportunities with his play along the wall. With just four goals this season one has to believe the Alberta product is close to breaking out on the score sheet sometime soon. Morrison (4G, 19A) is third on Dauphin with 23 points.
