Kings Continue Success At Home

January 19, 2016

The Dauphin Kings won their fifth straight game at Credit Union Place Tuesday night, beating the Swan Valley Stampeders 4-2.

For the second straight game in Dauphin the Kings saw one of their players notch a hatrick. Keaton Leininger (10, 11 & 12) scored in the first, second and third periods to help Dauphin to victory. Also for the second straight game the Kings got a shorthanded goal. Tyler Garrioch (8) got it in the third period to give the club a 3-0 advantage at the time.

Garrioch continues to be one of Dauphin’s best players and is now on a five game point streak, he added his goal and two assists to that total. The Kirklan Lycar also had a multi point evening, grabbing two assists in the contest.

Swan Valley battled back a little in the final frame, but couldn’t get the puck past Brandon Holtby (8-19) enough to tie things up. Holtby made 32 saves on 34 shots. The Kings fired 31 on former Parkland Ranger Brett Evans.

Speaking of Parkland Rangers, Riese Gaber made his MJHL debut with the Kings. He didn’t score any points, but had a couple strong shifts and looked good on a line with Chance Thomas and Romano Morrison as Matthew Greening continues to recover from an upper body injury.

Dauphin’s Power Play continues to roll. It was 1 for 3 Tuesday while the Penalty Kill went 3 for 4. Since the start of January the Kings man advantage has been clicking over 20%. Dauphin has scored on the Power Play in every game they’ve played in in 2016 except one (4-1 loss to STB).

Tuesday’s victory stops Dauphin’s three game slide, they’re now 16-23-2 on the season and are four points back of OCN for 8th in the standings with five games in hand. The Kings will try and continue their strong play at home on Friday when they welcome the top ranked Portage Terriers to town. Game time is 7:00pm. Listen to the One Hour Power Play Show before the game, it goes from 4-5pm on 730 CKDM!
