Kings Fall 4-1, Ukrainian Night Huge Success

January 23, 2016

home

The Dauphin Kings forgot to show up to the party and it cost them in a 4-1 loss to the Steinbach Pistons Saturday night at Credit Union Place.

Dauphin gave up three goals in the first 15 minutes of the contest and they were unable to recover. Tyler Garrioch (9) scored the lone goal for the Kings Saturday and was easily the team’s best player. Brandon Holtby (8-21) might have been Dauphin’s next best player. He turned away 33 of 38 Steinbach shots. The Kings could only muster 18 on the Pistons net.

If there was a bright spot to the Kings’ game on Saturday it was their Penalty Kill, which went 7 for 7 against the MJHL’s top unit. On the flip side Dauphin’s Power Play looked flat and didn’t generate many chances.

It’s unfortunate, as this is the second game this season that the Kings have not played well in front of a good crowd. Earlier in the campaign Dauphin hosted their home opener in front of an almost sold out crowd, but gave up two early goals to Neepawa and ended up falling 5-2. Saturday the Kings’ first handful of shifts were weak, considering the club was playing in front of another great crowd that was behind them off the hop.

Even though the Kings ended up losing I believe fans at this game had a great time. There was lots to do and lots going on at the same time. Congratulations to Ryan Rauliuk and Ruff’s Furniture of Dauphin who put on a great game. I’m looking forward to seeing this become a yearly event for Dauphin.

For the Kings, they drop to 15-25-2 on the Manitoba Junior Hockey League season, still 9th in the standings. Dauphin has a very important week coming up with games against teams around them in the standings. On Tuesday they visit Swan Valley (On 730 CKDM), Thursday they go to Waywayseecappo and Sunday they’re back home to the OCN Blizzard.

Thanks for following this weekend, more fun below…
