Venture To The Valley

January 26, 2016

The Dauphin Kings head two hours up Highway 10 today as they take on the Swan Valley Stampeders for the fourth time this season.

It’s the beginning of a very important week for the Kings. They have three games, tonight in Swan River, Thursday against the Wolverines in Waywayseecappo and Sunday at Credit Union Place against the OCN Blizzard. Three wins would not only give Dauphin their first three game winning streak of the season, but it would get them right back into the race for 6th place in the standings.

Of course when I elude to the ‘race for 6th place’ I’m talking about Dauphin avoiding the survivor series which has the 7th place team playing the 10th and 8th and 9th going at it in a best of three set. If Dauphin were to finish 6th they would get a few days off and take on the 3rd place club in the standings in the early stages of March.

Listen to this evening’s contest on 730 CKDM. The Parkland Source for Sports Pre Game Show kicks off at 7:15pm with opening face off from the Centennial Arena in Swan River at 7:30pm. If you can’t listen then follow me on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM) for updates!

Intermissions: Coming up tonight in the first intermission it’s the latest edition of RAPID FIRE with Dauphin Kings forward Matthew Greening. Will he be the third straight player to get through 20 questions in 60 seconds? We’ll see. In both the first and second intermissions we’ll be checking on the out of town scoreboard. Tonight you’ve got just one other MJHL game as the Winkler Flyers visit the Selkirk Steelers. The Westman High School Hockey League’s Dauphin Clippers are home to the Crocus Plainsmen as their season begins to wind down. The Clippers have just four games left. Plus there’s a handful of games in the NHL including the Winnipeg Jets, who are home to Arizona Coyotes. All that and more in the intermissions tonight!

Team Stats

Kings 16-25-2 (9th): The Dauphin Kings will look to snap a losing skid on the road that has seen them lose 10 straight away from Credit Union Place. This game is just the second one in Swan River between the Kings and Stampeders. Last time there Swan took it 4-3. These two teams still have two more games against each other after tonight’s battle. For the Kings, they enter the tilt 9th in the standings. They’re currently six points back of OCN with five games in hand. Dauphin is nine points behind the Stampeders with two games in hand. The Kings Power Play slipped to 10th in the MJHL over the weekend, it’s now at 14.78%, but is still clicking just above 20% for the month of January. On the Penalty Kill side things continue to improve for Dauphin, they’re now up to 7th at 78.64%. Kirklan Lycar (17G, 19A) continues to lead the Kings in points with 36. Dauphin has three games left this month, so far they’re 3-7-0.

Tyler Garrioch is on a 7 game point streak (4G, 9A).

Landon Plett is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 3A).

Stampeders 19-21-5 (6th): Swan Valley continues to hold down 6th place in the standings, but are feeling pressure from both Selkirk and OCN who are just three points behind them. Swan recently picked up a key 7-3 victory over the Steelers in Selkirk. The win also snapped the club’s four game losing streak at the time. The Stampeders enter tonight’s game with the MJHL’s 8th ranked Penalty Kill (78.11%) and 7th best Power Play (18.78%). Former Parkland Ranger Josh Tripp leads Swan Valley in points with 38 and goals with 22. The Stampeders have given up three or more goals in five straight games. In January they are 2-2-0 at home.
