Last Meeting

January 28, 2016

The Dauphin Kings will look to bounce back from a 4-2 loss to the Swan Valley Stampeders tonight when they visit the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for the final time this season.

It’s a big game when it comes to the MJHL standings. Wayway is six points back of Dauphin for 9th place, but the Kings do have a game in hand. If you’re looking at it from a Waywayseecappo perspective the tilt is very important if the club wants to catch Dauphin for 9th or any other teams in front of them for that matter. For Dauphin a win would separate them more from the Wolverines heading into the final month of the regular season.

The Kings have won every game against Wayway this season (5), including one exhibition game in September. Most recently Dauphin beat the Wolverines 9-3 at Credit Union Place earlier this month.

No broadcast tonight, but you can follow me on Twtter (@ChristianCKDM) for updates during the game. Opening face off in Waywayseecappo is pegged for 7:30pm. Tonight’s contest is the only one in the MJHL.

Team Stats

Kings 16-26-2 (9th): With the success Dauphin has had against Waywayseecappo coming into tonight the Kings must be aware that the Wolverines are really looking for a good game against them, especially after last time out when they lost 9-3 in Dauphin. The Kings, meanwhile, have lost three in a row and are looking for a much better outing after Tuesday’s flat and stale effort in the second and third periods against the Swan Valley Stampeders. The one positive out of Dauphin’s game on Tuesday was their Special Teams were 100%. On the Power Play side the stat bumped the Kings up to 9th in the MJHL at 15.20%. For the the Penalty Kill Dauphin is now up to 79.02% which is 7th in the league. Kirklan Lycar (17G, 20A) still leads the Kings in points with 37, but Tyler Garrioch (9G, 23A) isn’t far behind. His current point streak has brought him up to 32 points coming into this evening. Dauphin is still struggling on the road, they’ve lost 11 in a row as the away team.

Tyler Garrioch is on a 8 game point streak (4G, 11A).

Landon Plett is on a 3 game point streak (1G, 3A).

Sam Schultz is on a 2 game point streak (0G, 2A).

Wolverines 12-29-4 (10th): It’s a very important game tonight for the Waywayseecappo Wolverines. A victory would get them within four points of the Kings for 9th place. A regulation loss would separate them further with a month left in the campaign. This is the last meeting between these two teams this season, unless they meet in the playoffs obviously. Wayway comes into this contest with four straight losses in their rear view mirror. In those four contests the Wolverines have been outscored 24-5. Despite the losing skid Wayway’s Power Play is better than Dauphin’s, it’s 8th in the MJHL at 17.90% while their Penalty Kill sits 10th at 73.02%. Twenty year old Johl Swedlo (18G, 16A) leads the Wolverines in points with 34. So far this month Wayway is 2-7-0, tonight’s game is game three of a five game home stand for the Wolverines, they’re 0-2-0 so far.
