Kings End January At Home

January 31, 2016

close

The Dauphin Kings close out the month of January at home tonight as they welcome the OCN Blizzard to town for the final time this season.

The first month of 2016 started out with lots of promise for the Kings, but coming into tonight their record is at 3-9-0 in January.

Dauphin is looking to get out of a four game losing skid after falling to Waywayseecappo on Thursday night. Credit Union Place has been a bright spot for the Kings this month, they’re 3-2-0 at home with the two losses coming to two of the top teams in the league. The road has not been nice to the club, they finished this month at 0-7-0 as the away team, and have not won a game away from Credit Union Place since mid November.

This is the fourth game between the Kings and Blizzard. OCN has won two of the three meetings so far.

Watch tonight’s game on FASTHockey. Opening face off is pegged for 7:00pm. If you can’t watch then follow me on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM) for updates!

Team Stats

Kings 16-27-2 (9th): The Dauphin Kings are running out of games and it’s now looking more and more like they’ll be in a survivor series. So the goal might shift to gaining home ice advantage in the best of three series when it pops up in the early stages of March. Some good news for the Kings as starting 20 year old goaltender Jarrod Schamerhorn is skating again and could be back in the lineup in early February. After giving up 10 Power Plays to Waywayseecappo on Thursday the Kings Penalty Kill is now 7th in the MJHL at 78.63%, their man advantage sits 14.98% which is 10th. Kirklan Lycar (17G, 20A) continues to lead the Kings in scoring with 37 points.

UPDATE:

Blizzard 20-27-2 (8th): The OCN Blizzard come into Dauphin on a bit of a hot streak. They’ve won four of their last five, in fact, the only team the Blizzard have lost to in the last three plus weeks are the Steinbach Pistons. OCN has lost to them three times since January 7th. After a lot of games earlier in the season the Blizzard will enter the month of February with a very lean schedule. OCN has played more games than most teams in the MJHL. Coming into tonight the Blizzard have the league’s 9th ranked Power Play at 15.72% while their Penalty Kill is 6th at 79.84%. Logan Harland (33G, 43A) leads OCN in scoring and is second in the MJHL in points with 76. The Blizzard are 1-4-0 on the road this month.
