February 1, 2016

The Dauphin Kings enter the first week of February looking to snap a five game losing skid.

Although the club has dropped their last five they’ll look to build on positives that came throughout last week, including Sunday’s 4-3 overtime loss which the Kings arguably deserved a better fate in.

Overall, Dauphin finished the first month of 2016 with a record of 3-9-1. At home they were 3-2-1 while on the road they ended January at 0-7-0. The Kings have not won on the road since November.

This week Dauphin has three games. On Tuesday they’ll head south to Virden to visit the Oil Capitals for the final time this season. You can hear the contest on 730 CKDM, opening face off is pegged for 7:30pm but the Parkland Source for Sports Pre Game Show fires up at 7:15pm. After Tuesday the Kings return to Credit Union Place on Friday to battle the Portage Terriers. That afternoon you can hear the One Hour Power Play Show on CKDM for FREE, it happens at 4:00pm! Then on Saturday, North of 51 and Western Bakery in Dauphin are giving away FREE tickets to the Kings/Steelers game at Credit Union Place. That tilt goes at 7:30pm Saturday night.

More to come this week…

Three ‘s Of The Week

3. Chance Thomas

Chance Thomas had two assists for the Dauphin Kings last week and continues to play well for the club. His assist on Thursday night in Waywayseecappo was his 100th Junior ‘A’ point. The Alberta product is close to another milestone as he looks to hit the 50 goal mark in his career. Right now the forward sits at 48. Thomas (14G, 10A) is sixth on the Kings in scoring with 24 points.

2. Trevor Kavanaugh

Trevor Kavanaugh has played very well for the Dauphin Kings since the start of 2016. He enters this week on a three game point streak that has seen him pick up two goals and an assist in the stretch. Since the start of 2016 the Ontario product has four goals and three assists. Before the start of January he had two goals and six assists after joining the Kings in October. If Kavanaugh can continue to fine tune his point shot, he’ll have the best shot in the league by the time he’s 20. Maybe even by next year.

1. Tyler Garrioch

Dauphin Kings Captain Tyler Garrioch continues to roll. He snagged two goals for the Kings in the club’s 4-3 OT loss to OCN on Sunday. As mentioned Sunday night, Garrioch continues to CLEARLY be Dauphin’s best player since the start of 2016. He closed out the month of January with six goals and 12 assists for 18 points in 13 games played. Garrioch will reach a milestone on Saturday when he plays his 200th game in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. When he hits the mark, the Kings Captain will have spent 169 of those 200 with Dauphin.
