The Rebound

February 6, 2016

The Dauphin Kings put forth a much better effort Saturday in a 5-2 victory over the visiting Selkirk Steelers.

The Kings got started early when Kirklan Lycar (18) scored on Dauphin’s first Power Play. Selkirk responded but the Kings regained the lead when local product Tyler Derkach notched his second of the season off a Trevor Kavanaugh point shot. Selkirk kept pace with the Kings in the middle frame, scoring early on to tie things up at two. That was the last time the two clubs would be even. Dauphin scored three unanswered after that, one in the second and two in the final frame. In order the goals were picked up by Tyler Garrioch (12), Oliver Lester (5) and Daniel Chartrand (6).

The Parkland Ranger line of Matthew Greening, Tyler Derkach and Daniel Chartrand was reunited and was arguably Dauphin’s best line Saturday.

Jarrod Schamerhorn was superb between the pipes for the Kings and made some big saves en route to his eighth win of the campaign (8-6). He turned aside 33 of 35 shots he faced while the Kings fired 31 on Selkirk’s Hayden Dola.

Dauphin’s Special Teams were on point Saturday. On the Power Play they finished 1 for 3 and they were 5 for 5 on the Penalty Kill.

With the victory the Kings (17-29-3) snap their seven game losing streak and pull within five points up Selkirk for 8th in the standings. Both teams have 11 games left in their season. Dauphin saw 1336 fans in the stands for the contest.

For the Kings, their next game comes on Tuesday when they welcome the Swan Valley Stampeders to Credit Union Place. Game time is 7:00pm.

Thanks for following tonight…

Oliver Lester is on a 2 game point streak (2G, 0A).
