The Dauphin Kings will look to build off their success against Selkirk when they kick off a busy week on Tuesday against the Swan Valley Stampeders.

Last weekend the Kings lost two and won one. They came up short in the third period in Virden in a 6-3 loss to the Oil Capitals on Tuesday. Friday Dauphin dropped a disappointing 10-2 decision to the Portage Terriers and then on Saturday the club rebounded with an important 5-2 win over Selkirk. The decision against the Steelers has the Kings back in the mix for home ice in the MJHL survivor series, but they most continue their strong play to have a shot.

This week the Kings have four games. It’s likely their final busy week before the end of the regular season early next month. On Tuesday Dauphin hosts the Swan Valley Stampeders at Credit Union Place. Then the team will get set for three games in three nights this weekend. It’ll be another test as the club visits Steinbach, Winkler and Portage. You can hear all three games on 730 CKDM!

Three ‘s Of The Week

3. Local Line

The line of Tyler Derkach (1G), Matthew Greening (1G, 1A this week) and Daniel Chartrand (1G, 1A) came up big in the Kings 5-2 victory over the Selkirk Steelers on Saturday. The unit was strong down low along the boards in the contest and generated a number of good scoring chances. Look for them to remain together coming into this week.

2. Oliver Lester

Oliver Lester continued his solid play last week with two goals. The Calgary product scored a key goal in the Kings 5-2 victory over the Selkirk Steelers on Saturday (Below). The 18 year old is third on the Kings in D-man scoring with 12 points. (5G, 7A)

1. Jarrod Schamerhorn

Jarrod Schamerhorn made his return to the pipes over the weekend for the Dauphin Kings. Although he battled in relief of Brandon Holtby on Friday, Schamerhorn looked very good in Dauphin’s win over the Selkirk Steelers on Saturday. The 20 year old from Victoria BC made a number of key saves to keep the Kings ahead of Selkirk in the second and third periods. Schamerhorn has a 8-6 record this season with Dauphin. His goals against average sits at 3.53 while he has a .880 save percentage.
