The Dauphin Kings open up another three game in three night road swing tonight when they visit the Steinbach Pistons for the final time this season.

In the stretch the Kings will take on the top three clubs in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. After this evening they’ll visit Winkler tomorrow and Portage on Sunday.

When it comes to the season series the Pistons have won all five meetings so far, but the last time Dauphin played in Steinbach the Kings put forth a very good effort which fell just short of getting at least a point.

Listen to tonight’s tilt on 730 CKDM, it’s 100% FREE and the broadcast gets going at 7:15pm with the Parkland Source for Sports Pre Game Show, opening face off is 7:30pm. If you can’t listen then follow me on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM) for updates!

Intermissions: Coming up tonight in the first intermission it’s the latest edition of RAPID FIRE. Everyone’s been talking about it with Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marc Berry. Will he get through 20 questions in 60 seconds? Stay tuned for it. In the second intermission, and throughout the night we’ll focus on the out of town scoreboard. Lots going on tonight with four other contests in the MJHL. Along with that there’s a HUGE game in Dauphin between the Parkland Rangers and Kenora Thistles as those two clubs battle for a playoff spot in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. Also you’ve got the Grandview Comets in action and games in the WHL, NHL and more!

Here’s Kings Head Coach and General Manager Marc Berry ahead of the contest, beginning with the fact the club’s won two straight and how important those points against Selkirk and Swan Valley were…

Team Stats

Kings 18-29-3 (9th): The Dauphin Kings enter tonight’s game three points behind the Selkirk Steelers who visit the Swan Valley Stampeders. Selkirk currently occupies 8th place, which is home ice advantage for the best of three survivor series which begins early next month. The 7th and 8th place teams will have home ice in those series. There will be lots of scoreboard watching, cause as mentioned there are four other games in the MJHL this evening. Dauphin’s Special Teams coming into tonight have them ranked 10th in the league on the Power Play (14.47%) while their Penalty Kill is 8th (77.47%). On the road the Kings’ PP is 5th at 19.64% while their PK is 7th (75.86%). Kirklan Lycar (19G, 23A) still leads the club in points with 42. Dauphin is 0-1-0 as the away team this month and are still looking for their first road victory since mid November.

NEAT TREATS

The Kirklan Lycar is on a 2 game point streak (2G, 1A).

Tyler Garrioch is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 3A).

Brandon Young is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 1A).

Jarrod Schamerhorn has won 2 straight starts.

Pistons 38-9-3 (2nd): The push for first place in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League will likely fall short for the Steinbach Pistons. There just aren’t enough games left for them to challenge Portage for the top spot. The Terriers currently have 92 points while Steinbach sits with 79. If the Pistons were to win all of their remaining games they would get to 99 points. Judging by their schedule I would expect Portage to win at least five of their remaining seven contests. That total would put them at 102 points and 50 victories on the campaign. Regardless, I still think Steinbach is the team to beat in the MJHL playoffs. The Pistons boast the league’s top Power Play (26.82%) and 5th best Penalty Kill (81.22%). Daniel Taillefer (16G, 49A) is on top of the Pistons in scoring with 65 points. That total is good enough for 4th overall in the MJHL. Steinbach is currently on a five game home stand, they’re 2-0-0 so far.
