End Of The Season

March 2, 2016

last

The Dauphin Kings conclude their regular season schedule tonight at the GLMC in OCN against the Blizzard.

After an entertaining game Tuesday night that resulted in a 4-3 shootout win for OCN the two clubs will play another meaningless game when it comes to the standings.

After yesterday pretty much everything is decided in the standings. OCN’s win clinched them sixth place while Selkirk’s 7-2 loss in Winkler to the Flyers has just about locked them into eighth. The Steelers aren’t mathematically out of seventh, but I don’t see them beating Steinbach and OCN and then having Swan Valley losing to Wayway over the next couple of days.

Keep your eyes on a storyline that is going to develop over the next few days. With Selkirk pretty much in eighth place the game this Saturday between the Steelers and Blizzard in OCN could be a meaningless one. The contest was originally scheduled in February but due to zamboni issues the Steelers and Blizzard could not play it so it got moved. With Selkirk being in Steinbach the night before it’s unlikely the Steelers will want to travel up to OCN for a late afternoon affair against the Blizzard. If Selkirk doesn’t play the game they and OCN will have played one less contest when the season comes to a close and Selkirk would get a free day of rest before their survivor series would begin. I’m not saying Selkirk is or isn’t going to travel up to OCN as of right now, but if they don’t play their 60th game of the season on Saturday and elect not to travel north it will not make them, or the MJHL look very good if they allow it.

Tune in to the game on 730 CKDM and 730CKDM.com. Did you know it’s FREE to listen to on the radio?! If you can’t listen to the game then follow me on Twitter (@ChristianCKDM ) for updates!

Intermission: Coming up tonight in the first intermission it’ll be the final edition of RAPID FIRE this season. A special bonus edition with myself and Daniel Chartrand as the host so be sure to listen for that! Plus the out of town scoreboard which is a bit quiet this evening. The game between Dauphin and OCN is the only one on the MJHL schedule this evening. Also tonight the Brandon Wheat Kings are home to the Saskatoon Blades and there’s three games in the NHL.

Kings 20-33-6 (9th): The Dauphin Kings continue to look for consistency on the road as the regular season comes to an end tonight. We touched on it during the Pre Game Show yesterday, if the Kings are to have success in the post season they’re going to need to win games away from Credit Union Place. After a successful night on the Power Play Tuesday the Dauphin man advantage is now 7th in the MJHL at 17.37%. On the road the Kings Power Play is 4th in the league at 23.62% while their Penalty Kill overall is 9th at 74.83%. Kirklan Lycar (24G, 30A) and Tyler Garrioch (15G, 37A) will decide the Kings scoring championship tonight, they’re separated by just two points. Lycar has 54, Garrioch has 52.

NEAT TREATS

The Kirklan Lycar is on a 5 game point streak (4G, 3A).

Landon Plett is on a 5 game point streak (2G, 4A).

Sam Schultz is on a 4 game point streak (0G, 6A).

Tyler Garrioch is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 3A).

Kelby Picard is on a 2 game point streak (1G, 1A).

Blizzard 27-28-3 (6th): Nothing much for the OCN Blizzard to really play for tonight. Obviously you play to win but outside of that there isn’t really much for the Blizzard to go after this evening, although with a win OCN can get back to .500 before they head in to the playoffs. After this evening the Blizzard will get set for their first round playoff series, they’ll take on the Winkler Flyers. I thin OCN can upset Winkler, but thats a conversation for another day. Coming into tonight the Blizzard Power Play is 9th (16.39%) while their Penalty Kill rests in 6th (81.44%). Logan Harland (39G, 54A) has 93 points and will finish second in the MJHL scoring race, he’s nine points short of Portage’s Brad Bowles (45G, 57A) and 11 points clear of Winkler’s Tristan Keck (39G, 43A).
